What Works for Children’s Social Care, in association with the Department for Education, is delighted to announce the launch of the Mockingbird Family Model across ten new local authorities, as part of ‘Supporting Families: Investing in Practice’.
This programme will help hundreds more foster families with practical and emotional support and advice, helping them tackle the day-to-day challenges of taking in a vulnerable young person from care and creating a stable environment for them to live in.
The Mockingbird Family Model, delivered by The Fostering Network, is an extended family model that provides sleepovers and short breaks, peer support, regular joint planning and training, and social activities.
The model will be expanded to the following local authorities:
- Sheffield
- East Cheshire
- Warrington
- South Tyneside
- Barnsley
- Staffordshire
- Shropshire
- Telford & Wrekin
- Stoke-on-Trent
- Wakefield
The roll-out and impact of the programme will be independently evaluated by the Rees Centre, University of Oxford.
