Steve Walker is the Director of the Leeds Relational Practice Centre which delivers Leeds’ sector led improvement support, including the Partners in Practice and Family Valued programmes. Steve joined Leeds in 2011 as the deputy director for safeguarding, specialist and targeted services, and became director on 1 October 2016 before moving to his
current role in 2020.

Steve qualified as a social worker in 1984. In addition to his experience as a practitioner, manager and senior leader in local authority Children’s Services Steve was a Research Fellow at Royal Holloway College, University of London where he developed a range of materials to support social work practice. He has also worked in the Care and Social Services Inspectorate for Wales, where he was involved in developing and implementing policy to deliver better outcomes for children.

Steve’s career is underpinned by a commitment to service improvement and the delivery of positive outcomes for children.
